When this magazine article was first read, the Second World War was in full swing – but for the “Forgotten Men” who were unable to work in a defense plant or were too old for military service, the Great Depression had never stopped. To ease the pain, one of FDR’s alphabet agencies stepped in to lend a hand:
“The Farm Security Administration [has been] detailed to look out for migratory defense workers – the kind who can’t find a place to live in overcrowded war-boom towns”
