WAC Strength Numbered 89,000 Strong

• Yank Magazine, 1945 •

This small notice appeared in YANK some six months before the war had reached its climax. One of the more amusing facts-about WACS not included in this column, because the author who amassed these historic tidbits would not know this until the war ended, involved the U.S. Army occupation of Germany: an American general ordered that all WACS chosen to serve in Occupied Germany be no shorter than six feet tall.

In time, no doubt, the height requirement was rescinded.
