Here is a clumsy piece of wartime propaganda from 1942 that asks us to see the sunny side of the Japanese American internment camps:
“War has brought internment camps to America, but they have about as much relation to the Nazi model as the Bill of Rights has to the Horst Wessel Song… There are ball games on trim green grass diamonds, and youngsters playing on slides and swings…there are regular entertainments and well-stocked libraries.”
In the words of one of the internees:’
“If Japan wins this war we have the most to lose. We hope America wins and quickly. This is the way we are demonstrating our loyalty.”
