This is yet another example of how confident everyone was that the United States was destined to play a part in the war – this article appeared on the newsstands a full month before Pearl Harbor and it is all about the unique jobs within the Civilian Defense organization. This graphic undertaking was placed in the hands of Charles Coiner (1898 – 1989), an advertising art director. He was no stranger to working for the Federal Government – he designed the famous blue eagle of the (defunct) National Recovery Administration some years earlier (you can read about his blue eagle here).
