Women's Suffrage

Susan B. Anthony Lionized

• Pathfinder Magazine, 1920 •

Five and a half months before the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting all female citizens over the age of 21 the right to vote, the editors of The Pathfinder Magazine saw fit to pay tribute to Susan B. Anthony (1820 – 1906) – the woman who got the ball rolling so long ago:

“At the time of Miss Anthony’s birth no state in the Union and no foreign country allowed women to vote. At the present time 21 foreign countries have given women full suffrage, while in this country 17,000,000 women may vote for president and 7,000,000 for congress. Miss Anthony’s well-known prophecy was that American women would vote in 1920…”

“She was arrested for trying to vote at Rochester, N.Y., in 1872 – the first arrest for the cause. She drafted the pending amendment to the constitution in 1875.”
