Not long after Hitler had assumed power came the eyewitness accounts concerning all the assorted government sanctioned murders, public beatings, and confiscations that characterized the Third Reich.
This article was published just three months after Hitler’s fascist coronation and it lists a number of atrocities accompanied by two paragraphs of spin that were specifically written for The Literary Digest by Joseph Goebbels (1897 – 1945), Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda:
“No one in Germany combats the Jew because he is a Jew.
No Jew in Germany is disturbed because he is a Jew.
Germany defends herself exclusively against the Bolshevist elements, and a Bolshevist is a German or a Jew.”
“Furthermore, the German people are attempting to re-achieve German leadership for the country.”
“For example, if 2,400 lawyers out of Berlin’s total of 3,500 are Jewish, it is a readily understandable to anyone that the people must be opposed to such a situation.”
