During the Summer of 1946, a young boy sat in a Brooklyn sandbox playing quietly; this lad would one day grow to be America’s fave Marxist: Bernie Sanders (b.1941). Meanwhile, a few miles west of the sandbox, New York’s Cardinal Francis Joseph Spellman (1889 – 1967) sat at his desk writing this editorial explaining why Marxism was the polar opposite of everything Americans holds dear. After reading the Spellman’s column, one comes away with a sense that Americans of his day had all been taught to believe that they were the heirs of a good country that protected liberty and freedom. Jump ahead some seventy years to our era and you’ll find that many in the American electorate have been taught that they are the heirs of a bad nation that values racism and inequality. In order for Sanders and his ilk to to triumph, this shift in the education policy had to take place – and it has.
