As the social revolution would unfold in the decades that came after this article first appeared, the pressure for women to be morally superior to their male counterparts began to fade away; girls were taught that they could be just as vulgar as their brothers – and many were happy to prove that they could. As of 2014 it has been estimated that there are more than 200,000 American women in prisons and 2,000,000 women on probation.
