Thoughts on Dying

• Pageant Magazine, 1950 •

On the right, Reverend Daniel A. Poling (1884 – 1968) recalled his visit to the bedside of a dying American soldier in 1944 France. The young man, a believer in Christ, expressed his undigested views of what lay before him in the afterlife. The author shared his understanding on the topic:

“I believe that this life is our childhood. And, of course, if you and I live beyond the grave, then that which makes it possible for us to know each other now – the you of you – goes on, too.”
