Justice McReynolds

Crusty Justice James Clark McReynolds was the one man on the Supreme Court who FDR found most irksome. Obstinate and intolerant of minorities, McReynolds was unmarried, had few friends, and none on the court. Indeed, one of his own clerks, John Knox, who worked under the Justice during the late Thirties wrote in his memoir that his time at that office was like “clerking for Scrooge”.
