“The Senate Naval Affairs Committee approved a bill to authorize construction of 200 more ships, to cost $4,000,000,000, but no money for them is expected this year. Acting Secretary of the Navy Compton announced yesterday the award of contracts for three aircraft carriers and two cruisers to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co…. The Army is planning to outfit an armored corps of two divisions of mechanized cavalry, motorized infantry and mobile field artillery. The new corps will eventually contain 1400 tanks, combat and scout cars, 600 mobile guns and howitzers. More armored units will be set up as soon as tanks, trucks and artillery can be manufactured.”
