The Cold War

Observations Regarding
the Future of European
and American Hegemony

• Pageant Magazine, 1959 •

This article appeared in a popular middle class magazine in 1959 and it reported on the rising international sentiments that signaled to the dominate Western power structure that the old diplomacy of the wealthier white nations had to change.

“After 400 years of domination by the white world, black, yellow and brown peoples are engaged in a great struggle for freedom. The struggle makes the Cold War between the West and Communism seem almost provincial.”

– and if the West was to gain the upper hand in the Cold War, it needed to adhere to many of the developing nation’s wishes. Recognizing that the good will of these nations needed to be secured if the U.S. was to have the upper hand at the U.N., the Americans re-wrote their immigration laws and began admitting citizens from the developing world.

Another columnist reached a similar conclusion in 1954…

The Department of State hated it when Radio Moscow would depict Americans as simply a bunch of “lynch-happy bigots“…
