Fashion (WWII)

A 1940s Fashion Revival...

• Click Magazine, 1943 •

The attached article reported on the time when home heating fuel had to be rationed as a result the Second World War, forcing the fasinistas of the Forties to borrow a page from Granny’s play book; once again, American women began to sport crochet wraps, shawls and booties around the home.

Referring to the model pictured in the colorful image above, the Click editors wrote:

“Draped in a colorful Afghan, Conover fashion model Pat Boyd gives the when-mother-was-a-girl fashion a 1943 glamor twist. Sold by stores throughout the country, the shoulder warmer is a practical solution for this winter’s anticipated fuel shortage. It’s only one item in a lavish line of fireside fashions planned to attract the young fad-loving woman.”
