Devastation in the Formerly Occupied Portions of France

On the right is a column that appeared in the October 15, 1923 issue of Time that reported on the amount of devastation that was inflicted upon the German-occupied areas of Northern France between 1914 through 1918.

“Over 56% of the houses that existed in 1914 were destroyed or badly damaged by the German invasion… In 1914 there were approximately 200 hospitals; as of July, 1923 there are 193.”
