General Brerton’s transfer was announced from Cairo after he had led the U.S. air command in India. The General emphasized close cooperation with the RAF, whose intelligence and ground services his forces depended on heavily. An experienced fighter pilot, he had fought in the Java campaign and later led a Flying Fortress raid on a Japanese convoy near Port Blair in the Andaman Islands.
