This short notice from the Stars & Stripes served to announce a 1919 uniform code that:
“A silver chevron, similar in design and size to the gold service chevron of the A.E.F., was authorized by the War Department last month for men in the service in the United States.”
The image posted above indicates that the American soldier (or Marine) who wore the uniform had served one year in the United States and six months in the war zone during the First World War.
