Maurice Rose:
Killed in Captivity

Major General Maurice Rose (1899 – 1945) was a veteran of the First World War, and one of the few Jews to serve in such a senior position during W.W. II. He was a combat general of the first order, who would frequently be spotted in the forward-most positions of his command, and the attached column explains how this lead to his capture and subsequent death. As fate would have it, the General met his end on Passover, 1945 – his father, Rabbi Samuel Rose, remarked upon the significance of his son’s end:

“And so, may Jehovah accept this sacrifice, and see the blood and pass over all peoples for their sins, at this Passover time. For my son’s sake.”
