Pictured above and below is Dan Burley (1907 - 1962). He was a much admired man of his day; noted editor and columnist who served at a number of respected African-American newspapers and magazines, a Boogie Woogie pianist, sports writer covering the Negro League and he was to Jive what Samuel Johnson was to English - a lexicographer. The attached article points out that his column, "Back Door Stuff", was one of "the most widely read Negro columns in the world". when this article appeared he was serving as a war correspondent in the Far East.
