"Last week, before 5,000 German-Americans, Michael Cardinal von Faulhaber (1869 - 1952) of Munich, admitted freely that his countrymen and the Imperial German Government had made a grave mistake both before and during the war. He apologized personally for the sinking of the Lusitania, the invasion of Belgium and other acts of his fatherland. He said he was not representing the government, and would account for what he said only to himself"

In the years to come Archbishop von Faulhaber continued with his work serving the Catholics of Munich but fourteen years later he became a real pebble in Hitler's boot click here to read about that.
