Blaming it all on an “early winter”, Hitler ordered the citizens on the home front to give their furs and woolens to the German Army on the Eastern Front:
“The soldier wants shoes and if possible warm underwear, pullovers and woolstuffs; furs and caps, boots, small and large, fur gloves – everything of fur is urgently wanted on the [Russian] front.”
