"I do not believe there is such a thing as an illegitimate child. But I do believe there are many illegitimate parents."

-and so begins the Joan Crawford (1905 – 1977) testimonial concerning the glee of motherhood, published in the February issue of PHOTOPLAY from 1948. The article, "I'm an Adopted Mother", rambles on column after column about her four adopted children, Christine, Christopher, Cynthia and Cathy and what tremendous fulfillment they brought to her life.

In 1978 Christine would publish a bestselling memoir about the beatings, rantings and general abuse that the movie star could be relied upon to deliver daily.
