The attached 1919 STARS & STRIPES article is a brief account of the brave deeds of Major Charles W. Whittlesey of the 308th Infantry Regiment (Seventy-Seventh Division) and why the Congress saw fit to award him the Medal of Honor.

Shortly after the war Whittlesey would die by his own hand.

In December of 1918, Whittelesey was also nominated to the VANITY FAIR Hall of Fame...
