Lieutenant Colonel Richard Mangrum, USMC (1906 – 1985), was a seasoned member of "the Cactus Air Force" that fought the good fight from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in 1942. He penned this article shortly after the campaign for that island was won and tells of the daily life and hardships that Marine aviators had to endure.
