To be sure, whenever President Franklin Roosevelt journeyed north to his family seat in Hyde Park, he was under the watchful eye of one Sergeant Edward J. Dougherty, who, along with other members of the New York Police Security detail, made FDR's whereabouts their business whenever he was in that state. You can also be sure that Sergeant Edward J. Dougherty and his fellows were well aware of the existence of Lucy Mercer and all other paramours FDR liked to entertain in the Empire State. For all those who made FDR's legacy their business, it must have no doubt been a shock when they learned that Dougherty had written a memoir of his days with the President. His book, Prisoner at Hyde Park, was never published (it was truly a different America in 1954) but a few of the less spicy stories Dougherty collected are posted herein.
