Buried somewhere among these smelly magazines that surround me is a 1937 article concerning the inevitability that the ten year-old Elizabeth would one day rule as sovereign - it was recorded that her sister Margaret Rose (1930 – 2002) responded to the news by simply saying, "Poor you!" -
That little story has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the attached article, I just thought you might care to place it in your file regarding the "natural wisdom of children" - although it does support what Gore Vidal wrote about Margaret shortly after her death: "She was far too intelligent for her station in life."
This small snippet is about a major event (and a colossal media event) that took place in the life of the Princess in 1955 - when she was told that the man she loved was not suitable for marriage.
