Attached are excerpts from the diary of Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815 – 1902) on the matter of the 1850s Women's Suffrage Movement and the garment that the suffragettes were prone to wearing - Bloomers:.
"People would stare, many make rude remarks, boys follow in crowds, with jeers and laughter, so that gentlemen in attendance would feel it their duty to show fight, unless they had sufficient self-control to show the even tenor of their way...".
