A year after the end of the Second World War, the 79th Congress of the United States convened a joint committee in order to understand what went wrong and how it was that the two flag officers who commanded that installation were so unprepared for the Japanese attack – in light of the fact that the British and Americans had been reading the Japanese codes for some time.
