Attached is a printable chronology from THE SOUTHERN REBELLION (1867) listing the most prominent events that occurred in 1865: the last, and most decisive year of the American Civil War.
As the year began, General Sherman was concluding his march through Georgia, and was soon to begin his ravaging the Carolinas. In April President Abraham Lincoln would be assassinated ten days after touring occupied Richmond. On May tenth the victorious Union army marched in review down Pennsylvania Avenue and by the month's end, Kirby Smith and his rebel forces surrendered in the West.
